Yesterday i finally managed to get my act together and ride some of the natural trails in the hills behind cardiff. I've been here for over 2 years now and have been lacking in adventure and stuck to the trail centres. However yesterday i met up with some friends i met riding trans wales and at other races for an epic loop in the hills. We started at Rich's house in caphilly (over the hill form cardiff) and imediatly began climbing up a rediculously steep rocky and loose farm track followed by a traverse accross the top of the mountain and a super fast and fun drop down to the otherside. It reminded me of riding in the peak district. We then headed over to cwm carn where we took an extended loop over the top of the hill which then met up with the final descent. After a brief stop in the cafe we headed up to machen mountain. I'd heard good things about Machen and it didnt dissapoint. Steep twisty rooty single track was the order of the day here. Great fun! We then finished off with a short loop in some woods before dropping back down into caphilly. All in all a great fun day. We were out for almost 4h in glorious sunshine and did 1800m of climbing. I shall be out riding there again soon!
I've finally managed to fight off the bug i've had. I managed a complete week of training this week and felt great. The power numbers are looking good so hopefully its all up from here.
Next weekend i shall be back racing cross again, at Bryn Bach park once more.

8000m! Are Ironhorse supplying you with jetpacks now instead of bikes? ;)
